Exercise & Mental Health Book Talk
Join former Taos resident Nita Sweeney for a book talk about exercise and mental health.
At 49 years of age, grief-stricken, and chronically depressed, Nita Sweeney took up running with her yellow Labrador retriever in an attempt to find a way out of the darkness. Whether you’re a reader who has fallen into deep despair or simply interested in learning about the connection between exercise and mental health, Nita’s memoir of pounding the roads with her canine companion will motivate, entertain, and encourage you to follow in her footsteps.
Depression Hates a Moving Target: How Running with My Dog Brought Me Back from the Brink, was released by Mango Publishing this year and includes the three years she lived in Taos. Nita is a writing coach, marathoner, and long-time meditator who now lives in central Ohio with her husband, Ed, and their dog, Scarlet, the #ninetyninepercentgooddog.
Award-winning Taos author Tania Casselle will introduce Nita and a Q&A will follow. Books will be available for sale and signing.
“Nita Sweeney’s vibrant memoir, Depression Hates A Moving Target, not only captures the runner’s mind, but shows how practice — whether in running, writing, or meditation — and finding a community can transform a life. —Natalie Goldberg, bestselling author
“Nita Sweeney’s tale of finding the strength to do what seemed impossible should encourage all of us to get up off that couch and do something to make our lives better!
—Sean W. Murphy, NEA Fellow and Hemingway Award-winning author
